Psalm 19:7-11

This has been one of my favorite Psalms for a long time now. We used to sing it at the church I grew up in, from time to time. I was reading this text the other day, when something struck me that had never struck me before. King David delighted in the Torah, the Law of God. Where we look at the Torah, and get mostly bored once we get past Genesis, King David delighted in it all. Look at how he describes the Torah, and how much joy he takes in the Law of God. He states that it is "more to be desired" than "fine gold", and that it is "sweeter also than honey". He describes the Torah as being able to convert the soul, enlighten the eyes, rejoice the heart, and make wise the simple. It's no wonder that God describes David as being a man after his own heart.

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
(Psa 19:7-11 KJV)
